Iran Makes Mideast’s Best Supercomputer!

Iran Makes Mideast’s Best Supercomputer
It has 216 Aptron processing units with two gigahertz frequency that utilizes cluster technology and functions in a parallel manner. This computer has 56 gigabyte memory with a storage capacity of 5,800 gigabyte.

Iran has manufactured the Middle East’s most powerful supercomputer at the Research Center for Ultra High-Speed Processing of Amir Kabir University of Technology.

A researcher with the project’s team, Bahman Javadi, said the project is the result of two years of research, Fars reported.

“The supercomputer has 216 Aptron processing units with two gigahertz frequency that utilizes cluster technology and functions in a parallel manner. This computer has 56 gigabyte memory with a storage capacity of 5,800 gigabyte,“ he said.

Javadi noted that the supercomputer will be used for weather forecast in Iran’s Meteorological Organization and has the processing capacity of 860 billion actions per second.

“According to world trade regulations, supercomputers that perform more than 190 billion acts per second are regarded as strategic products and their sale is subject to international sanctions,“ he said.

Javadi pointed out that Iran has joined the few countries that have access to the technology for manufacturing such a supercomputer.

Noting that the supercomputer uses Linux operating system, he further said the software for monitoring and controlling the system was also designed by researchers of the center.

“Several application software products, including MMS and ARPS used for forecasting weather, have also been installed on the supercomputer,“ he said.

“The Research Center of Ultra High-Speed Processing of Amir Kabir University of Technology gained access to the technology for manufacturing cluster supercomputers after 15 years.“

Javadi pointed out that Iran’s first supercomputer was produced in the center in 2001 and a supercomputer was installed at Iranian Space Organization in 2003 for processing satellite pictures.

Iran is not a rival of Saudi Arabia

New Arms Deal Meant to Counter Iran or Make Money?
By M. A. Saki

The United States recently offered Saudi Arabia a $20 billion, 10-year arms sales package.

Washington claims the proposed sale is intended to upgrade the Saudi military’s ability to counter possible Iranian aggression in the Persian Gulf region.

“This is all about Iran,” a U.S. official told CNN on condition of anonymity.

The major powers are seeking to spark arms races between countries to earn profits and create jobs at home.

The best customers are affluent Arab countries in the Middle East, which have become fat on high oil prices.

The U.S. is attempting to recover some of the money it has spent importing oil and funding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The portrayal of Iran as a threat to neighboring Arab states, and particularly Saudi Arabia, is very hard to swallow. Saudi Arabia also does not view Iran as a threat.

Saudi and Iranian officials address each other as “brotherly” countries and hug each other when they meet.

Iran has been a major regional power for millennia and all regional Arab states acknowledge this fact.

To demonstrate its principled policy of establishing close relations with its southern neighbors, Iran has been developing and strengthening ties with them and has even overlooked the fact that they gave about $100 billion in financial assistance to Saddam Hussein’s Baath regime during its eight-year war against Iran.

Iran and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) states are linked by regional, cultural, and economic interests, and thus Iran would never antagonize its neighbors.

About half a million Iranians visit Saudi Arabia annually as hajj and umra pilgrims and funnel hundreds of millions of dollars into the Saudi economy.

Iran is also the biggest regional trade partner of the United Arab Emirates. Iranians have invested about $300 billion in the UAE and thousands of Iranian nationals live in the country.

Iran has even proposed establishing a common security pact with the PGCC members -- Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman. Tehran has also floated the idea of creating an Iran-PGCC nuclear consortium for enriching uranium since the PGCC states want to develop nuclear energy as an alternative to fossil fuels.

Iran is a potential rival of the U.S. in the region, but not a rival of Saudi Arabia and its other neighbors, which is something that U.S. officials are well aware of.

It would be more accurate to say that the Saudi kingdom is more nervous about the instability created by the U.S. invasion of Iraq and the United States’ blind support of Israel than the rising military might of Iran.

No one has forgotten last summer’s Israel-Lebanon war, when the U.S. airlifted sophisticated weapons to Israel and blocked a UN Security Council call for an immediate ceasefire. During the war, the Saudi government poured 1 billion dollars into Lebanese banks to prevent an economic collapse. The war was in a sense a proxy war between Arab states and the U.S.

So, if Saudi Arabia is interested in buying weapons like satellite-guided missiles from the U.S., it most probably wants to counter Israel’s sophisticated weaponry.

On the other hand, the U.S. is trying to start an arms race to sell more arms and recoup it losses from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and is just using the argument that Iran is a threat to its Persian Gulf neighbors to facilitate the proposed arms deal.

Iran's 2nd Jet Fighter Passes Test = Lightning!

Iran's 2nd Jet Fighter Passes Tests Successfully
The test fly had been carried out in the presence of the Defense Minister, Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, and a number of senior military officials in the central city of Isfahan.

Iran on Sunday successfully test flied its second home-made jet fighter called 'Azarakhsh' (lightning).

An informed source from the public relations of Iran's Air Force told FNA here today that the test fly had been carried out in the presence of the Defense Minister, Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, and a number of senior military officials in the central city of Isfahan.

The source also extended his congratulations to the Iranian nation on the successful test of Azarakhsh.

Iran's defense minister earlier announced that the newly designed and manufactured Azarakhsh would go on test during air force maneuvers.

Azarakhsh is Iran's second home-made fighter jet after Sa'egheh (thunder).

Iran: US arms deal fruitless
Tue, 31 Jul 2007 20:16:25
Mottaki describes Israel as the mere source of problems in the region.
Iran has described the US efforts to sell billions of dollars of weapons to regional countries as 'fruitless' and 'opportunistic'.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said the US aims to save the country's arms industries from bankruptcy.

The White House officials, some of whom are the stockholders of big arms companies, are seeking to create a negative political climate in the Middle East so that they can make huge profits, he added.

Mottaki said that such policies will not undermine the ties between the regional nations reiterating that the Middle East problems solely stem from the US support of Israel's warmongering.

Mottaki said the US support of the Zionist Regime in last year's Israeli aggression of Lebanon is a clear evidence of Washington's inappropriate policies in the region.

The US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced on Monday, before starting her Middle East tour, that the US is providing an arms package for Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt to counter what she called Iran's influence in the region.
